Chinese scientists have developed children's tumor antibodies after 14 years

Earlier this month, a monoclonal antibody drug called Burtomab, after 14 years of clinical research, finally received the US FDA "breakthrough therapy" certification! This medicine has taken a substantial step in the treatment of neuroblastoma metastasis to the central nervous system!

In the absence of Burtomab, the median survival of this cancer patient was less than 6 months, and less than 10% of patients survived for 3 years.

Since the clinical study in 2003, 56% (45/80) of patients receiving Burtomab have a survival of 4.8-152 months (median survival of up to 58 months); 45% (36/80) patients survived for 3 years, and 29% (23/80) patients survived for more than 5 years! The first patients to receive treatment have turned cancer-free survival into reality for 10 years! ! ! Those who did not receive Burtomab treatment had an average survival of only 8.6 months!

Neuroblastoma, the most common cancer in children under 2 years of age, accounts for 8% to 10% of all childhood tumors. Because the initial symptoms are very similar to other common childhood diseases, they are often misdiagnosed. Therefore, 2/3 of the children are not diagnosed until the tumor has metastasized to other parts of the body.

Once transferred to the central nervous system, it is almost equivalent to giving a "death judgment" to children with neuroblastoma. This is a blow to the family of children.

Burtomab, pioneered by the team of Professor Nai-Kong Cheung who commemorates the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). Professor Cheung is Professor of MSK Children's Oncology, a children's cancer specialist, chief of neuroblastoma, and a leader in the neuroblastoma program. He received his Ph.D. in immunology from Harvard University and joined MSK in 1987.
