Donor kidney risk of kidney failure is "extremely low"

A new study by Johns Hopkins University in the United States shows that people who donate a kidney have a "extremely low" risk of kidney failure, even lower than many people with kidneys. Scientists say that this conclusion once again shows that donating kidneys is safe and hopes to help dispel the doubts of those who want to donate kidneys. Seghoff and others at Johns Hopkins University reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association on the 11th that they analyzed the medical records of more than 96,000 adult kidney donors in the United States from 1994 to 2011. More than 20,000 ordinary people with kidneys and those who meet the criteria for donating kidneys but who have not donated kidneys are compared. Studies have shown that the risk of renal failure in kidney donors is 90%, that is, 90 out of every 10,000 people have kidney failure, far less than the average person's 326, but slightly higher than the donor's criteria but not donated 14 of the ten thousand. Seghoff said that donating kidneys is a very personal decision with certain risks, but the study tells people that the risk is low enough for most potential donors to be willing to take it. Previously, Seghev and others reported in the same medical journal in 2010 that donating kidneys would not shorten their lifespan, and those who donated kidneys lived as long as ordinary people.
